I've enabled TCP/IP logging, and this is what I get for an attempt at first FTP,
then SMTP, then PING. The only packets that ever come IN are DNS replies; all
the TCP and ICMP packets go OUT but I don't get any replies coming IN.

I am using a vanilla FreeBSD 4.4 installation, with firewalling off; I have
copied my rc.conf at the end of this email.
