I asked around about this a little while back, and got various code
fragments and pointers (mostly to the NetBSD code).  The eventual
result was that Stefan Esser is working on a revamp of the whole
shebang, and that most of the register-dumping is likely to be moved
out into a userland utility.  So I stopped worrying about it and went
elsewhere 8)
