This is the same problem as reported in PR 105514 when booting from
 the install CDs:

    http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=105514

To get past this problem you need to hold down the space bar as the
system boots, then when you see /boot/kernel/kernel on the screen, you
can release the space bar. The system will then boot into the
sysinstall, and you can then install the OS. Once the OS is
installed, the system will boot normally.
