Questions: 1. Does FreeBSD make use of our two(2) Pentium 400MHZ motherboard? 2. Does it work at all with two CPUs? 3. Can we rely on SAMBA to enable filesharing with other systems (W95/WNT)? Or how is this done? Below You will find a suggestion that I think would help promote FreeBSD. If it is not "your table" please forward this message to someone who handles these types of questions. Thanks! Suggestion: Many companies like ours, relatively small ones, are fed up with Microsoft. You could make deciding to go for BSD VERY easy by providing an example setup for replacing a W95 or WNT box as a server with FreeBSD. This example must be presented in a way so that it is understood by Windows folks NOT UN*X people. For instance the example could be presented in following way: 1. Simple graphic showing a network with some workstations having a a W95 as a server. This server keeping common files, receiving faxes, hosting local mail etc. 2. Next step would be to make a list of all required functionality from the server and check each item that BSD supports. List corresnponding FreeBSD server/application/function beside each required functionality that they use W95/NT for. 3. List how each functionality is enhanced by using FreeBSD - to sell it even more! 4. Make a checklist for the reader to check before coming to FreeBSD 5. If he/she checks all items on the list - give an instruction on how to proceed to obtain, install and replace the W95/NT with FreeBSD. You can also make a more advanced example, setting up an internetserver, firewall etc. A complete migration section on the site perhaps. "Replacing Windows NT" Instructions like these would have pursuaded us to throw out our Windows servers long time ago. I know for a fact that many small companies are using W95 as a simple server as they do not wish to pay an expensive NT licens just to have a server for some 10 users. Using W95 as a server they are bound to be disappointed as far as reliability, performance etc is concerned. With FreeBSD they would not even have to have advanced hardware to get acceptable performace. Also, I know that small companies would be very interested in proxy server capabilities. In our case we would be interested in replacing following functionality with a FreeBSD server: Filesharing with W95/NT/DOS clients Intranet server Proxy capablities Network Fax send/receive That would do it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our Windows servers would be thrown out at once and I think that other companies would do the same if you were to make it a bit easier using my suggestion. We are also in a position to help you do this. We would not mind translating examples to Swedish and maybe people from other countries could help you with their language. After translation, it is only a matter of making the examples visible and that could be easily arranged.
