I've been testing with gnome3 on FreeBSD, so far I've noticed GDM takes soem time to eventually show (but it does show). If relevant: cat /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log | grep Err libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied libGL error: failed to load driver: i965 (gnome-settings-daemon:5846): media-keys-plugin-WARNING **: Unable to inhibit keypresses: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.login1 was not provided by any .service files libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied libGL error: failed to load driver: i965 Gjs-Message: JS LOG: No permission to trigger offline updates: Polkit.Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: Action org.freedesktop.packagekit.trigger-offline-update is not registered (gnome-settings-daemon:5846): media-keys-plugin-WARNING **: 4: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied libGL error: failed to load driver: i965 Gjs-Message: JS LOG: No permission to trigger offline updates: Polkit.Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: Action org.freedesktop.packagekit.trigger-offline-update is not registered (gnome-settings-daemon:5846): power-plugin-WARNING **: Unable to inhibit lid switch: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.login1 was not provided by any .service files (gnome-settings-daemon:5846): power-plugin-WARNING **: Unable to inhibit suspend: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.login1 was not provided by any .service files g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). Exiting. As the subject says trying to click the "show applications" icon always makes gnome crash (more like hang for a while and then all seems to be back, and I see this in the logs: ktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.59" (uid=0 pid=5832 comm="") Jul 30 18:14:51 r2d2 dbus[5615]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.127" (uid=1001 pid=5967 comm="") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.59" (uid=0 pid=5832 comm="") Jul 30 18:14:51 r2d2 dbus[5615]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.127" (uid=1001 pid=5967 comm="") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.59" (uid=0 pid=5832 comm="") Jul 30 18:14:51 r2d2 dbus[5615]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.127" (uid=1001 pid=5967 comm="") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.59" (uid=0 pid=5832 comm="") Jul 30 18:14:51 r2d2 dbus[5615]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.127" (uid=1001 pid=5967 comm="") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.59" (uid=0 pid=5832 comm="") Alt-F2 + r makes gnome crash completly, gnome-session segfaults and I also see this in /var/log/messages Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Could not connect to ConsoleKit: Unable to lookup session information for process '5745' Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 5 Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 5 Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: App 'gnome-shell.desktop' respawning too quickly Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Could not connect to ConsoleKit: Unable to lookup session information for process '5745' Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Could not connect to ConsoleKit: Unable to lookup session information for process '5745' Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 5 Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 5 Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: App 'gnome-shell.desktop' respawning too quickly Jul 30 18:15:45 r2d2 gnome-session[5745]: WARNING: Could not connect to ConsoleKit: Unable to lookup session information for process '5745' If I can add any more helpful logs please let me know!
