Have been subscribed to the list now for about two weeks now, and I thought introducing myself would be the right thing to do before I start asking questions ;) My name is Matthias, born in Germany and living there again after one year studying in Melbourne for my bachelor of IT, and I recently started using FreeBSD, after hacking my way through Debian Linux more or less sucessfully for about a year now .. means I am able to get X running, compile a kernel and write my own iptables script; my router is still running linux for that reason ;) Now I have installed FreeBSD 5.0 on my workstation, built and installed the world and kernel, and got Gnome 2.2 running. Next thing to do is getting a firewall up and running, and installing / securing necessary services like apache, sshd, bind, samba and nfs. Well, to keep it short, that's my story. Until now. the mailing list(s) archives and the handbook were able to solve any of my problems, but that won't be so forever I guess. Speak to you guys soon Matt To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-newbies" in the body of the message
