heres the scenario p 120, 32 megs ram, 600mb, 8 gig hhd's dfe530-tx running freebsd 3.2 release intel inbuisness 8 port 10/100 switch generic 8 port hub various windows / unix clients ----- ok the server sends out files via nfs, smb and ftp and is plugged into the switch the hub is connected to the switch and most clients are connected to the hub data transfer between the freebsd server and clients is incredibly slow due to incredible amounts of collisions. transfer from other servers on the same switch is not affected by the same problem. i have tried 2 other network cards with the same results, a 3c509btx and a amd pcinet (lnc) both half-duplex and full-duplex have the same results, the kernel has packet filtering on and runs dhcpd help!
