Yes, but configuring a kernel is not something you do every day.  For that
reason alone, such a project won't have a big impact on day-to-day admin.
If, on the other hand, it's a project to get to know new tools or a new
language, it would certainly be a useful goal to attain.

So: what are you going to do it in?  I can see a killer JavaScript here.
But then, I'm growing webs between my fingers these days.  ;^)
