An attempt at a better fix was commited and then disabled because it
caused problems with some exceptionaly stupid systems, IIRC.  You can
enable it in 4.2 release by adding the following line to your kernel
config:

makeoptions     CONF_CFLAGS=-DPCI_ENABLE_IO_MODES
