i figured out the xfree86 - if this is any help - xfree86 setup will "optimize" some factors for the highest resolution that is selected durring an XFree86setup. therefore if one chooses 1024x.... and 800x..., then say if you flip it to 800x...during a windows session the icons will be off the screen and there will be that "global" desktop scrolling phenomena when a component is dragged and pinned to a desktop edge ( marqee'ing other components in/out of view ). so i just choose one resolution i liked and when the setup program is just about over there will be a dialog window and behind that dialog window is a proto desktop area - then size that desktop area w/the controls on the monitor. then ok out - and it's sweet. i realize this is idiosyncratic ( of me -mostly ), but it worked. I have the basic desktop I'm looking for. To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-newbies" in the body of the message
