Hello, This morning I tried the 8.0-RC1 version of the pre-compiled package arts-1.5.10_2,1.tbz from the FreeBSD server: it crashes as well. So the problem is perhaps outside this package. While I was thinking what could be wrong I stumbled over the following small clash: as I said, I installed 8.0-RC1 base system and updated /usr/src from SVN and later after 9-CURRENT was build and installed I updated /usr/ports from CVS. The problem is that for the SVN checkout one must build the port /usr/ports/devel/subversion-freebsd; I compared the time when I did the SVN checkout (Oct 6, 11:xx) against the times in /var/db/pkg and it turned out that the following ports and have been installed *before* 9-CURRENT kernel/user-land: # ls -l */+CONTENTS | fgrep 'Oct 6 11' -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 7938 Oct 6 11:48 apr-ipv6-gdbm-db42-1.3.8.1.3.9/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 7368 Oct 6 11:44 autoconf-2.62/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 606 Oct 6 11:44 autoconf-wrapper-20071109/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 9579 Oct 6 11:44 automake-1.9.6_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 304 Oct 6 11:44 automake-wrapper-20071109/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 107102 Oct 6 11:46 db42-4.2.52_5/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 801 Oct 6 11:28 expat-2.0.1/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1238 Oct 6 11:44 gdbm-1.8.3_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 33428 Oct 6 11:26 gettext-0.17_1/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2795 Oct 6 11:26 gmake-3.81_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2670 Oct 6 11:44 help2man-1.36.4_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2856 Oct 6 11:23 libiconv-1.13.1/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 4625 Oct 6 11:19 libtool-2.2.6a/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 4011 Oct 6 11:44 m4-1.4.13,1/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 31411 Oct 6 11:28 neon28-0.28.4/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1271 Oct 6 11:44 p5-gettext-1.05_2/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 314648 Oct 6 11:40 perl-5.8.9_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 573 Oct 6 11:27 pkg-config-0.23_1/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 376893 Oct 6 11:43 python26-2.6.2_3/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1063 Oct 6 11:28 sqlite3-3.6.14.2/+CONTENTS -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 27342 Oct 6 11:50 subversion-freebsd-1.6.5/+CONTENTS esp. libtool-2.2.6a let me think that this procedure (i.e. building subversion-freebsd before updating to 9-CURRENT) could cause the clash. I will recompile the above ports and if this does not help re-install all and remove /usr/local/* and /var/db/pkg/* before starting with compiling the ports after the SVN and CVS parts are done. matthias -- Matthias Apitz t +49-89-61308 351 - f +49-89-61308 399 - m +49-170-4527211 e <guru@unixarea.de> - w http://www.unixarea.de/ Vote NO to EU The Lisbon Treaty: http://www.no-means-no.eu
