That's not what i understood from your first e-mail. I too use a cable 
modem connected to an ethernet card. I'm really sure i'm not surfing at 
100 mbps, the modem's adapter certainly won't do 100 mbps, so unless 
you're using a serial/USB ISDN modem, i recommend setting the I/F 
mediaopt to 10baseT.

Here's what you said in the first place :

i suspect you should try to change this to

media 10baseT

...
