It did you just have disk idents enabled, which IMO are a PITA.

Add this to /boot/loader.conf and you'll see the normal device names again.
kern.geom.label.disk_ident.enable="0"

If you also don't want gpt's or gptid's you can also add:
kern.geom.label.gpt.enable="0"
kern.geom.label.gptid.enable="0"
