Pro tip, put it in your /etc/make.conf like so:

KERNCONF=WHATEVERYOUSAID

Then cd /usr/src && make buildkernel



You might also want to have a look at MODULES_OVERRIDE, also to be put in make.conf , saves a huge lot of time.
