I solved my own problem.  Someone should look into why this changed tho.

My /etc/resolv.conf was not writable by the dhclient process, it hasn't been
for at least a year.  Something changed in dhclient that is now causing it
to spaz out when it can't write to /etc/resolv.conf.

This could be a huge problem if someone has /etc mounted r/o.
