Thanks for the reply. I hate to be dense.. we are trying to upgrade our applications to 
move beyond 4.10, but it will take a while. I saw that there had been a release of a 
jdk 1.3 port for Freebsd 4.8 and up. Does anyone still have that port?

Your only choice at this late date is to upgrade your FreeBSD
installation.  4.10 has been out of support for quite some time, and
a great deal of rework has been done on the Ports Collection since then.
