The ATI Mach64 is known to cause all kinds of strange behaviour with FreeBSD 2.1.0, but they're supposed to have been worked round in 2.1.5. Can you tell us which version you're using? I haven't heard about the GSSC, though - maybe that's another "problem" card to add to the list. (Strictly speaking, the problems are with FreeBSD, rather than the card itself, but let's not argue about that). Have a look at the FAQ. It goes into a fair amount of detail on how to sort out the Mach64 on 2.1.0; if you fix this, please let us know, so we can add this info for the benefit of anyone else with this card. The FAQ is on your system in /usr/share/doc/FAQ/freebsd-faq.ascii, or under http://www.freebsd.org/ (or even file://localhost/usr/share/doc/FAQ/freebsd-faq.html :-)
