(i did this one before too :) ) Matt -----Original Message----- From: Bill Moran [mailto:wmoran@iowna.com] Sent: Monday, March 05, 2001 3:50 PM To: Rick Knebel Cc: questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Help with bootup Rick Knebel wrote: > I was editing my /etc/rc.conf and obviously made a mistake. > It stops on bootup and will not let me continue. > How can I get into my system to edit my mistake. While the system is booting, you'll see a message that says "Press Enter to boot right away or any key for ... bla bla bla" The system will then start counting down from 9. Press a key other than ENTER before it reaches 0. Then you'll get a prompt, enter "boot -s" which will boot the system in single-user mode (sort of like "safe" mode on Windows) You'll be asked for a shell (I always accept the default) then thrown into a shell prompt. From there you'll be able to repair your rc.conf file and reboot the system. -Bill To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message ------_=_NextPart_001_01C0A5B6.982ADA30 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D"text/html; = charset=3Diso-8859-1"> <META NAME=3D"Generator" CONTENT=3D"MS Exchange Server version = 5.5.2654.19"> <TITLE>RE: Help with bootup</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <P><FONT SIZE=3D2>Like he said, but you have to mount your partition = before you can get at the /etc/rc.conf file.
