If you're looking for a general purpose desktop solution for FreeBSD, and you're familiar with the way that Windows works, I'd recommend: FreeBSD 4.4-Release XFree86 3.3.6 KDE 2.2 or higher. This combination will give you what you're looking for. KDE has a suite of included applications that have a similar look and feel to the Office applications that you're used to on a Microsoft platform. Star Office also works quite well on FreeBSD platforms, along with other alternatives such as ApplixWare, etc. Those are a few options, and yes, FreeBSD is suitable for the stand-alone desktop, but in a networked environment is where it really shines. --- Andy To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
