you have either a bad power supply, 
or a bad power connector to the tape drive..
(or a half dead tape drive)

extra power drain caused a voltage drop 
which reset the drive.

this is the  error message a new drive makes when it starts up.
If we're still booting we (obviously) ignore it..
it is not ignored at other times :)
