I have been testing the ata driver recently, and I have noticed this message (along with not being able to access that hard drive after the message) ata0_slave: lost contact with device - resetting. then it says it's reset, but nothing can access the disk... I've gone back to the wdc drivers for now... although the wdc drivers appear to be about 3 MB/sec slower on reads for my FreeBSD HD..
