Over the weekend one my servers went down due to extended power failure. The file system reports clean, but something has gone sideways with networking. The server is a Dell 2950 running 7.0 release, and it's been working fine for well over a year. It uses the BCE driver. Ifconfig shows it to be up and active and configured with the correct IP, mask and gateway, but I can't ping anything. I've tested the ethernet connection with a nearby machine and it works. I also booted the 2950 from an Ubuntu live CD and the NIC worked, so i don't think it's a hardware issue. Is there a way I can rebuild the driver without having to rebuild the kernel? -- Michael Galvez Information Technology Specialist University of Virginia
