I asked someone who always has an opinion on this stuff how strongly
he'd object to me doing that to `make'. His answer was "very strongly",
so I've decided not to commit the changes. I received enough "don't
do that" email during the elf conversion time to last me for the rest
of this century, at least. Sorry.
