I've performed successfull upgrade from 6.x to 7.x a few days ago, 
there's no need for any special hacks.

Just cvsup to latest 6.4-REL, build from sources, just like 
/usr/src/UPDATING says. Then cvsup to latest 7.2-REL and again build 
from sources.
