I think that a lot of that will > apply, except that you've got bigger devices to back up to. To be more precise, you may burn an iso9660 filesystem to a DVD-R, just like a CD-R. Look at mkisofs in ports for more info. In the future you will be able to put a UDF filesystem on both DVD-R and CD-RW, allowing you to treat it just like a huge floppy.
