I'm not able to reproduce your panic on my box, but all I've done is
'ifconfig' the sl0 device w/out running sltattach, and everything
'works' as well as can be expected (I don't have anything on the other
end of the connection so *nothing* happens.)

No, but it may be supported by the if_ed driver, and the 8/1 SNAP has
the pccard diffs.  The documentation is *very* sparse, but if you look
at the manpage for 'pccardd', and at the file /etc/pccard.conf.same,
plus the tail end of /etc/sysconfig you might be able to figure out how
it works.  If you have questions, send me private email and I'll try to
help out.  It's the least I can do for one of the 'gurus' of TCP/IP. :)
