FYI:

I made a -r357979 based kernel that also had the
patches involved. It booted the example G5 Quad
just fine. (World/base was still the artifacts
material for -r357550 instead of being my normal
environment.)

So it appears that this is the last issue
outstanding for having a booting context on these
types of machines, at least for now.
