I am running Lucent Orinoco and Avaya Orinoco on Stable. So should be no problem.

As far as i understood you may need to add an entry like this to /etc/pccard.conf:

card " " "IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN/PC Card"
       config auto "wi" ?
       insert  /etc/pccard_ether $device start
       remove  /etc/pccard_ether $device stop
