Booting off of dangerously dedicated disks will go away.  I suspect
that things will work with them.

I'd be tempted to put an fdisk style partition on the jazz/zip disks
in any event.  It is now trivial to do (fdisk -I daX), doesn't cost
much (like 32k iirc) and keeps you from shooting yourself in the head
later.
