While we are at it ... could you explain to me, why I can't move
harddisks between different flavours of AHA2940 controllers ?

I have two scsi controllers:
	AHA 2940U and
	AHA 2940

I wasn't able in the past, to boot one disk with a FreeBSD
installation created on controller one to boot on controller two.

ahc0: <Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI host adapter> rev 0x00 int a irq 17 on pci0.13.0
ahc0: aic7880 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16/255 SCBs
ahc0: waiting for scsi devices to settle
scbus0 at ahc0 bus 0
ahc0: target 0 Tagged Queuing Device
sd0 at scbus0 target 0 lun 0
sd0: <IBM DORS-32160 WA6A> type 0 fixed SCSI 2
sd0: Direct-Access 2063MB (4226725 512 byte sectors)
sd0: with 6703 cyls, 5 heads, and an average 126 sectors/track

st0: <TANDBERG TDC 4222 =07:> type 1 removable SCSI 2

cd0 at scbus0 target 6 lun 0
cd0: <TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-5701TA 3136> type 5 removable SCSI 2

ahc1: <Adaptec 2940 SCSI host adapter> rev 0x03 int a irq 16 on pci0.14.0
ahc1: aic7870 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16/255 SCBs

What gives you 90% more speed, for example, in kernel compilation ?
