Running "sync" causes the decrease to appear sooner than it ordinari= ly would. I recall that ZFS likes to merge writes on a time scale of several seconds. In the openzfs code the sysctl variable "l2_asize" is the struct field arc_stats_t. arcstat_l2_psize.
