https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D265247 --- Comment #10 from Graham Perrin <grahamperrin@gmail.com> --- (In reply to PauAmma from comment #6) During my years with a University's Faculty of Management and Information Sciences: the name was, internally, commonly abbreviated to MIS but _never_ mispronounced "miss". Always "M I S".=20 Similarly, I never heard anyone say "mitt" with reference to Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Always "M I T".=20 The word NIS appears with NFS often enough for me to believe that "niss" wo= uld sound peculiar. I rarely hear NIS spoken, I do recall hearing the "N I S" pronunciation.=20 A number of well-known educational institutions and other organisations use= the phrase 'an NIS'. This number is large enough for me to believe that it is an acceptable norm. In no particular order, but beginning with MIT:=20 <https://web.mit.edu/rhel-doc/3/rhel-rg-en-3/s1-nfs-server-export.html>=20 <https://www.csl.mtu.edu/cs3451/www/notes/NFS%20and%20NIS.ppt> slides 33 an= d 42=20 <https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/references/unix/digital/APS2SCTE/DOCU_002.HT= M>=20 <https://documents.uow.edu.au/~blane/netapp/ontap/nag/networking/concept/c_= oc_netw_maintaining_host_name_nis_interf.html>=20 <http://alumni.cs.ucr.edu/~sjones/cs183/labs/lab9/>=20 <https://gist.github.com/ab2525/4689428>=20 <https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/managing-nfs-and/1565925106/ch04.html= >=20 <https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/doc/EDOC1100194274/69c4ce62/optio= nal-adding-the-storage-service-plane-to-an-nis-domain> <https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/aix/7.2?topic=3Dnis-configuring-worker-server>= =20 <https://www.ibm.com/docs/ja/aix/7.1?topic=3Dssw_aix_71/com.ibm.aix.nisplus= /doc/nisplus/nis_install.htm>=20 <https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/5/h= tml/deployment_guide/s1-nfs-server-config-exports>=20 <https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-uk/powerstore-9000t/pwrstr-cfg-nfs= /configure-the-nas-server-unix-directory-service-for-nis?guid=3Dguid-2f15de= 1a-cd71-4b50-a783-bddec43bc12e&lang=3Den-us>=20 <https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/authentication/configure-nis-server-ac= cess-task.html>=20 <https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/pdfs/sidebar/Configure_LDAP_or_NIS_ser= ver_access.pdf>=20 <https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/nfs/remove-nfsnetgroup?= view=3Dwindowsserver2022-ps>=20 ---- HTH =E2=80=93 hope that helps =E2=80=93 ope that elps :-) --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
