  Just tried the 7.0-snap iso and it works fine.

  I suspect it's an instruction alignment problem - I may have to move 
that code sequence to an asm routine to try and ensure that changes in 
other pieces of code don't shift it around. When I thought I'd fixed it, 
I'd probably just moved it back to an OK place :(
