Subject:System lock's up completly with no reason in LATEST SNAP

I am not sure what is causing this but every so often when i am doing a few things
the system will totally free and i can't get control on any of the virtual consoles..
I am running slip on a 486dx66 with 8 meg's of memory using the latest snap..
I was running a finger in the background and somebody was running lynx then tin which after it soon after it core dump or around the same time the system
totally hung..
It did this once before when i was just doing misc things to..
I think it also had this problem is the kernel from about a week ago to current.
Anyone got any clues on this?..
I believe this problem also happend when i was running ppp but i am not certain.
