Well, then man ifconfig tells us the next: --- cut --- *alias* Establish an additional network address for this interface. This is sometimes useful when changing network numbers, and one wishes to accept packets addressed to the old interface. If the address is on the same subnet as the first network address for this in- terface, a netmask of 0xffffffff has to be specified. --- cut --- Main address of ed0 interface is 216.231.58.3. Address we are speaking of is 216.231.58.8. Thus it _is_ an alias. And it _has_ to be specified with a netmask of 0xffffffff. And /etc/rc.conf[.local] should have lines: --- cut --- ifconfig_ed0="inet 216.231.58.3 netmask 255.255.255.0" ifconfig_ed0_alias0="inet 216.231.58.8 netmask 255.255.255.255" --- cut --- DS> DS Cheers, -- Boris Samorodov mailto: <bsam@ipt.ru> To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
