Why not just get as far as the machine needing to be unplugged - and then display something on the console? Like 'Pull Plug NOW!' or similar? Maybe even a nice 'Shutdown in Progress' message followed by 'Pull Plug Now'? If they are human, I'm sure they'll be able to work out where the plug is...
