Yes, that's the most burning issue.

This is my idea:
# use.python
You're currently using 2.4 (FreeBSD default)
# use.python 2.5
echo Changing default python version to 2.5
rm -f python
ln python2.5 python
# use.python default
echo Reverting to default python version
rm -f python
ln python2.4 python
And it gets run in post-install when there's no python link present yet.
