Do a "man ata" and learn how to use sysctl to turn off UDMA33+ on your motherboard. The Via chips and the ata driver seem to be very sensitive to some UDMA drive combinations. You can corrupt your data in really bad situations, which occured at 4.0-Release, and degrading to PIO 4 or using SCSI HD's seems to be the only solution at this point. The sysctl commands go into /etc/sysctl.conf Kent > > Marc Albers > > /var/log/messages: > > Sep 16 13:00:00 oblomow newsyslog[515]: logfile turned over > Sep 16 13:00:46 oblomow login: ROOT LOGIN (root) ON ttyv2 > Sep 16 13:04:34 oblomow syslogd: exiting on signal 15 > Sep 16 13:05:48 oblomow /kernel: Copyright (c) 1992-2000 The FreeBSD Project. > Sep 16 13:05:48 oblomow /kernel: Copyright (c) 1979, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 > Sep 16 13:05:48 oblomow /kernel: The Regents of the University of California.
