I've never tried to build the kernel without a populated obj tree on the i386. I have tried this on the Alpha. I tried it last week, before the recent move of the module build, and it didn't work because size and ld were not available in the obj tree. > People who try and build a -current kernel (which now builds > modules too after Cuck Robey's changes) on a machine with an older > /usr/share/mk are having failed build. My change is to have sys/* > refer to no configuration files outside of sys/*. Fair enough. However, I read your commit message as saying that it is now possible to build the kernel without a populated obj tree. Have you tried building the kernel in isolation from buildworld, or does your change only relate to Chuck Robey's recent changes? Ciao, Sheldon.
