The Linux version of the Java runtime needs linprocfs(5): mount -t linprocfs linprocfs /compat/linux/proc It might also help to run maple/xmaple using the Linux /bin/sh: /compat/linux/bin/sh /path/to/xmaple Then you don't need to modify any script to add a FreeBSD case.
