You are probably getting packages from the quarterly snapshot rather than latest. You can switch to the latest packages by creating a file /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf containing these three lines: FreeBSD: { url: "pkg+http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/latest" } Note that this affects all packages, not just vbox.
