You could as easily extend the idea for "make rerelease":
Upgrade the world first:
cd /usr/src && \
make world DESTDIR=3D${CHROOTDIR}
cd /usr/src/etc && \
make distribution DESTDIR=3D${CHROOTDIR}
Then:
cd /usr/src/release
make rerelease ...
