I'm sure I'll get a RTFM on this one, but I'd appreciate it, since my search skills don't get me to the right place. What's the standard thing to do when installing the latest/greatest, fressh from the ssource of ports (like freebsd 4.3)? Is it reasonable to unpack the tarball in the ports directory? Or is that more liable to confuse things later, and is it therefore preferable to put them someplace like /usr/local, where they tend to want to go anyway? -- Joel Rees <joel@alpsgiken.gr.jp>
