Just to inform you that I figured out what caused the crashes on my smp machine. It seems to be a temperature issue after all, but not cpu temperature but the temperature of the graphics processor or some other component on the graphics board. A new card and better cooling seems to have solved the problem (have been running for over 2 weeks now with a configuration and a set of apps that used to crash the machine within hours usually.) (Card iis of the same make and model) Opening the machine inmediately after it crashed and feeling the heat coming from the graphics card made me suspicious. I did not attempt to measure the temperature, but it was far too hot to touch it without getting burned. Now that I have some add. cooling there and a new card it is staying much cooler and also it doesn't crash anymore ;-) Thanks for all the advice I got from people, eventho it didn't help for this particular case, it helped to get some more insight in how the smp stuff works. -- Bart van Leeuwen ----------------------------------------------------------- mailto:bart@ixori.demon.nl - http://www.ixori.demon.nl/ ----------------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-smp" in the body of the message
