You probably do have an rc.d.  Look in /usr/local/etc.  Any *.sh 
scripts in /usr/local/etc/rc.d will be executed at startup.  Putting 
rc.d in /usr/local/etc keeps your local extensions separated from the 
standard system configuration files.
