Thanks for all your help on this and I really appreciate the fruits of
your labor.  I use gnome on FreeBSD/amd64 and I don't know what I'd do
without it.

The issue with seahorse is indeed a problem with 64bit vs. 32bit longs. 
There is a missing prototype in

seahorse-0.7.3/libseahorse/seahorse-key.h

I added

extern GType seahorse_key_get_type (void);

and now seahorse is up and running.
