Okay, here's a suggestion from one newbie to another (meaning it's probably useless). I've never had a problem with kppp if I had ppp correctly set up. Try to rule out kppp as your culprit by connecting without it first (that's easy to say, isn't it ;) ). I'm suspecting that something is not set up right for pppd, and that's your real problem. You might also want to search for "'silo overflow' and FreeBSD" on google or another good search engine.
