The /usr/bin/perl wrapper isn't solving many of the problems it was imported to deal with. There are limitations to it that don't have a clear "fix". One of the bigger problems is the duplicate "perl" binaries that occurs building and using packages from /usr/ports. Since the import of the /usr/bin/perl wrapper, the Perl port has gained an enhanced "use.perl" script that solves the problems. Thus the wrapper will be removed from the base system in a 5 days (Monday Nov 18th PST).
