Tom, I reported the same problem in bug report http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=61940. Basically, you can work around the problem by using the FreeBSD/alpha 4.11-RELEASE installation or mini-installation CD to format the device. Versions prior to 5.3-RELEASE do not correctly support the Mylex DAC960 (KZPSC) array controller. I have 5.3-RELEASE installed and running properly on an AS2000 with a RAID-5 array hosted by the KZPSC controller. Best wishes, Matthew
