Are these the files I compile to install the software? Or do I have to be connected to the internet to ftp the files because it keeps on getting the error message, "Couldn't fetch it - please try to retrieve this port manually into /usr/ports/distfiles/" > > Second question, Is a script installed by default? > Yes you need to be hooked up to the Internet to use the ports, as far as I know anyway, because they download the source which is then compiled (built) and installed on your system. I have been installing all of my software that way for a couple of months now. If you have a good connection and a relatively fast machine it's quick and painless. However some programs are large and take some time. I have a 766 MHz machine and Mozilla took well over an hour to compile. On the script question, I know some are, but don't know enough about them to give you more of an answer than that.
